Pet Wedding Advice: How to Include your Four-Legged Friend

She hangs on your every word. She loves you even on your worst days. She might even sleep in your bed. No, she isn't your sister or your b-f-f. She's your canine companion. Sure, she has an extra two legs and a slight speech problem but that doesn't mean she can't be your bridesmaid. Make sure to get your human attendants extra-special bridesmaid gifts for holding your dog's leash and volunteering for (shudder) scoop duty.

Couples are waiting longer to have kids and canines are happily filling the "spoiled child" role. At their Alice in Wonderland wedding, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz had a four-legged ring-bearer named Hemingway. He wore the most adorable puffy collar and stole the show. But while Hemingway was a natural star, there are some things to consider before inviting your pet to the ceremony.

Wedding Dogs Gone Wild

An obedience school dropout or over-excited Labrador could ruin your special moment. Months of planning might unravel if your dog barks and whines during the vows. Only well-socialized and well-trained pets should partake in the ceremony. And since few things are cuter than a puppy in a tuxedo, little Pugsley might take attention away from the bride.

Once you're positive that Fido can sit still during your wedding, the fun begins! Be sure to discuss your plans with the venue before you show up with your four-legged friend. Start training long before the wedding bells chime. Commands like "sit," "stay," and "come," are absolutely necessary to ensure your ceremony doesn't become a circus. Hire a professional pet handler for the day or delegate dog duty to one of your bridesmaids. If you hand the leash over to your girls, definitely make sure to thank them with super- sweet bridesmaid gifts.

Doggy Couture
Pets don't really need bridesmaid gifts, so at least sweeten the deal with a stunning ensemble. Like with bridesmaids, it's important that you find something proper for Fido. First, make sure yourdogs in clothes.jpgnormally naked friend is comfortable in clothes. For safety reasons, never put human jewelry on an animal. A crystal-studded collar that matches your wedding colors is a good way to glamorize your pup. If it's a boy, he'll look handsome in a tuxedo top or festive bandanna. Don't make Fido carry floral arrangements, some flowers are poisonous to pets.

Be sure to have an experienced wedding videographer  or photographer capture your canine's best candids. Then, add them to a special doggy photo album. For more wedding ideas, bridesmaids gifts ideas, and wedding gifts for guests, shop WeddingStand.
