Drop the Wedding Cake and Try Something New
It wasn't long ago that there were only a few options for wedding desserts. You've already had the white, multilayer cake covered in the not-so delightful play-dough taste of fondant. Another option, you could save some money with a few over-frosted, rectangle sheet cakes from Wal-Mart. What am I talking about? You're smart. You're resourceful. You're a bride-to-be that thinks outside of the box (or the baking pan in this case). When you're out searching for your wedding dessert, try out some of these sweet tooth options for your big day.
Cupcakes
So, I just bashed on cake, and the first alternative on the list is mini-cakes. These little guys are versatile, trendy and easy to make and transport. One of the major reasons that cupcakes have a leg up over cakes is simply the flexibility in taste options instead of only one cake option, which is normally the case with wedding cakes. Another key advantage is how individual cupcakes reduce the mess of cake cutting, or the need for utensils or plates. Just imagine how much your guests will love choosing individually colored and flavored pre-wrapped works of art. And at $.75 cents per cupcake, compared to a possible $2 per piece of wedding cake, this option won't break the bank.
WeddingStand Tip: Have the bridesmaids over for a cupcake decorating party. Be sure to thank them with sugary sweet bridesmaid gifts.
Wedding Pie
Maybe you're just not cake eaters. Well, tell that show stopping, attention whore of a cake to take a hike. Although they may lack the artistry, pies are a great option because you can adapt your buffet menu based on the season. Pies deliver a greater bang for your buck, and they're a classic American dessert. Try the three-tiered pie structure if you really want to put cake in its place.
Wedding Cookie
Cookies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Design some wedding gourmet fortune cookies to match your bridesmaid's dresses (hopefully, this isn't their only bridesmaid gift). Another option is the giant, frosted fortune cookie, complete with fortune on the outside. Top these cookies with a scoop of ice cream with your personalized ice cream scoop, and you will have delightful and memorable wedding dessert. The personalized ice cream scoop also makes a cool bridesmaid gift - especially if you have those ubiquitous girly gatherings centered around chocolate ice cream.
