As brides, we're obsessed with planning. We scour bridal magazines in search of the perfect dress. We toss and turn over whether the girls will like their bridesmaid gifts. From the cake to the bridesmaid dresses to the wedding favors, every detail is carefully considered.
Since you planned your wedding perfectly, nothing could go wrong, right? Not exactly. Wedding day emergencies happen to every bride - ripped nylons, runny mascara, wedding day rain, and complete disasters - like your uncle spilling red wine on your white dress. So much effort is put into having "the perfect wedding," the last thing you want to do is take a sideline seat because of a broken heel or lost contact lens. Here are ten things every bride should carry on her wedding day.
1. An extra pair of shoes - All those wedding day blooper videos of the bride tripping down the aisle could have been avoided if she wore comfortable shoes. Sure, those vintage Manolos add an extra four inches to your height and give the illusion of long legs, but the first dance at your reception will be pure toe torture. Stuff a comfortable pair of white flats (preferably bejeweled) into your bridal tote and whenever you're feeling the pinch, slip them on. Or better yet, find a pair of dancing socks.
2. A Hankie - You'llprobably shed tears at some point. Although crying is allowed, sniffling with a runny nose and raccoon eyes is not. Stash a hankie in your bridal bag even if you don't think you'll cry. Don't stuff it in your bra. And if your girls are "criers"consider these pink ribbon handkerchiefs for bridesmaid gifts.
3. Super Glue - In case you ignored our previous advice about comfortable shoes, put a tiny container of super glue into your purse. Super glue can mend a broken shoe, fix a falling centerpiece, or re-attach a boutonniere (ok, that's a slight exaggeration). Since super glue cannot heal a broken heart; it's best to keep your bridesmaids away from your fiance's "player" best man.
4.Bobby Pins - Even if you hired an exceptional stylish and used an entire tube of sculpting product, your locks will come undone near the end of the reception. Stock up on bobby pins and keep those strands in place.
5. Clear Nailpolish - Clear nailpolish is a bride's best friend. Not only can it smooth over unsightly chips in your manicure, it can stop the run in your stockings. Don't leave home without it.
6. Tampons - You didn't send Aunt Flo an invitation but she has tenancies to drop by unannounced. Remember the wedding scene in Sixteen Candles? Don't forget the Midol.
7.Breath Mints - Your first kiss as a married couple should not taste like the cheeseburger you devoured for lunch. Leave the chewing gum at home and pop a super-strong breath mint into your mouth 10 minutes before the ceremony. Have your bridesmaids do a quick breath/teeth check. That's what friends are for.
8. A Power Bar - On the Big Day, you'll rush from one place to another - from the salon in the morning to your home for pictures to the ceremony site. Brides rarely have time for breakfast. Tuck a power bar into your purse. Sure, you want to be svelte and stunning in your gown but you don't want your stomach to growl above the string quartet.
9.A Wrap, Jacket, or Muff - We love the look of a strapless gown. However, a shivering bride does not a good picture make. Don't steal your groom's tuxedo jacket - carry an elegant wrap or cloak (not a cape) to keep warm on the big day. Summer brides, this rule also applies to you! You should get goosebumps from getting married, not from a chilly, overly air-conditioned reception site.
10. Spare Eye Drops/Glasses - We love a bride in glasses. There's no better way to show off a punky personality than with a pair of black-rimmed glasses. If you're a myopic bride, carry a spare pair of glasses or contacts. In the rare case your glasses break, you'll have a back up pair and if your contact falls out, you won't have to squint through the wedding.
