Easy DIY Wedding Favor Ideas from a Crafting Novice

DIY made me cry. And that was it. I swore I'd never try a crafting project again. I hate scissors. I hate glue. I'm most likely to put a label upside-down or sew something so that the stitching is on the outside.

I was the kid who couldn't color between the lines (at least I wasn't the kid who ate crayons). As my wedding loomed towards me and my budget dwindled, I had to give DIY one last try. Learn from me, ladies. With these freshly baked tips, every bride can do-it-herself.

Don't Panic

Don't panic at wedding DIY - you're not renovating a house, you're just crafting a few wedding accessories. Get into the "Yes We Can" mindset. If your crafting projects look kindergarten, recruit your bridal party to help. And start simple - DIY wedding favors are the easiest of all the DIY wedding projects. DIY centerpieces and bouquets are considerably more challenging.

Create a Protype

Create a protype first. Don't buy hundreds of non-refundable roses and then realize you're not Martha Stewart. Once you craft the look you want, immediately buy all the materials - even if the wedding is months away. Learn from my mistake (apparently, lavender silk flowers aren't carried everywhere in autumn).

Easy DIY Favors

One trendy and easy D-I-Y favor is DIY favor boxes with a delightful treat inside and monogram or bow on the outside. You can guarantee this wedding favor won't end up collecting dust on a shelf. It will be savored within hours of your ceremony. The hottest color for DIY favor boxes? Tiffany (aqua) blue, of course!

Wedding Welcome Bags

Who doesn't love a bag of free swag? Fill goodie bags full of little treats for your guests. Just make sure the bags match your wedding colors and that each guest gets the same goodies (wedding riots aren't fun). DIY goodie bags give you the option of choosing the candy that goes inside.

Under the Guise of DIY

Love Rocks are the best of both worlds. They have the personal warmth and look of DIY and yet, you won't have to lift a finger, except to click "buy now." Another idea is to buy landscaping stones and have your guests write well wishes to the happy couple in silver or gold markers. Your guests should have to DIY too!
