Junior Bridesmaid: Her Duties Explained

Junior Bridesmaid: Her Duties Explained

Everyone knows what the bridesmaids and Maid of Honor do: plan the bachelorette party, the bridal shower, go with you to numerous dress fittings, and keep you from balling at the ceremony. But what about the Junior Bridesmaid (typically ages 9-14)? She's too little to plan your bachelorette party or your shower, but she's a member of your wedding party and you have to include her with the older girls.

Here are a few tasks you can delegate to the Junior Bridesmaid to make her feel like she earned her bridesmaid gift.

  • Help out the ushers by escorting guests to their seats.
  • Hand out programs, bubbles, rice, confetti, and other send-off props
  • Go wedding gown shopping, give input. She might be young, but she has the childlike honesty and insight you need. She'll tell you if the dress is flattering or not.
  • Assist with bridal shower favor construction. Her little fingers are perfectly sized for tying bows on favor boxes or goodie bags.
  • Dances with Junior Groomsmen. This awkward dance will be one of the cutest moments of the entire wedding.
  • Help address invitations with her perfect penmanship.
  • Perform a song or play a musical instrument during the ceremony.
  • Walk down the aisle in the procession and stand adorably at the alter with the other attendants.
It's challenging to find suitable bridesmaid gifts for the Junior Bridesmaid. She's almost-but-not-quite a teenager, so you might have trouble finding something age-appropriate but with a grown-up feel. WeddingStand has an expansive collection of bridesmaid gifts for Junior bridesmaids, check them out.
