Med Men Your Wedding: Vintage Decoration Ideas

Joan Hallaway

Mad Men is the coolest freakin' show on television. We can't get enough of the 1960's throwback style. Don Draper's crisp, clean suits. Joan's curvy figure. Open alcohol in the office. Don't we all wish life had a 60's twist!

There's just one problem - we didn't experience the 60's. But we all know some folks who did. Grab a touch of 1960's flair by paying homage to the people who lived in the moment by including their wedding memories with your big day. Your bridesmaids are no doubt too young to experience the glitz and glamor of the decade, but you can still give them '60s throwback bridesmaid gifts with vintage-style jewelry, purses, or scarves.

Wedding Gifts to the Mothers

Before you buy those bridesmaid gifts, look for wedding gifts for the mothers of the bride and groom. Give them something to brag about by skipping the generic corsage, and presenting a replica bouquet from their wedding day. You can do the same for the wedding father's boutonnieres.

All you need to do is supply your florist with a copy of their wedding photo, and a short description of colors if the picture is black and white.

Pictures are a Time Machine

Grab all the great wedding photos from weddings past. Black/white. Opaque. Even color. The more, the better. Use them as centerpieces for your tables! These Square Glass Photo Vase Centerpiece will hold those precious moments in time and it doubles as a pretty decoration.

Decorating with classic photos is a great way to include both sides of the family, as well as creating a family tree for all of your guests to appreciate. Everyone will love this trip down memory lane, plus it gives you a great excuse to show off your glamorous engagement photos (and he said no one was ever going to see them).

Something Borrowed (From the 60's)

Borrow a vintage piece of jewelry from the 1960's. A set of pearls. Some classic white gloves. Maybe even a birdcage veil. Granted, some of these treasures are a challenge to unearth, but finding the perfect family heirloom with the grandparents is a priceless wedding bonding experience.

Once you find your perfect classic keepsake, throw on a retro wavy hairstyle, and you'll have all great pieces to give your wedding outfit a timeless touch.
