Once you set up your Eco-Friendly Bamboo Place Card Holder (since you're a green bride that looks stunning in white) there's a good chance that your Aunt Mildred has never met future hubby's uncle Chuck. Get the conversations rolling with these totally freakin' awesome centerpieces.
Board Game Centerpieces
Some of the coolest weddings we read about these days are using board games as centerpieces to entertain the guests. If you're going to try this out, here are a few tips:
Make sure you choose games that end quickly
Games with the fewest pieces are the easiest to play
Find games people have already played
Hungry Hungry Hippos - We found this on Karen & PJ's nerdy gamer zoo wedding Offbeat bride post. They had the super cool idea of using Hungry Hungry Hippos as a table number holder.
Here are some other games that should work:
Scrabble
Trouble
Sorry
Apples to Apples
Connect Four
Operation
Shutes and Ladders
Jenga blocks - In the WeddingStand office, we like to stack Jenga blocks as high as we can. Jenga is a game of mental and physical skill, so good luck you've had a few drinks in you. Trust me, almost every attempt at the world's largest Jenga tower will end in failure, and when these structures fall, they make a hell of a racket. It's a good idea to play with this stuff on a table without glass on it.
Living Centerpieces
Throw some marbles, water and a goldfish in a bowl, and you'll have a centerpiece that's sure to keep adults and kids entertained all night. There are a few blog posts out there about people who've come belly-up on this idea in the past, so here's our WeddingStand advice:
Choose a big enough bowl - If the bowl is too small, your fish won't have enough oxygen.
Add distilled water - and keep the bowls at room temperature or you'll be explaining the circle of life to your younger guests.
Find them a home after the wedding - Everyone should have the choice to take home a new pet or else you might have a backed up toilet of your new scaly friends.
