Bachelorette parties, bridal slumber parties, spa days and other pre-wedding girl gatherings are always more festive with a little something-something to drink – and a beverage preferred by many a bride-to-be is the Cosmo (or Cosmopolitan) cocktail. While elevated to the height of popularity by Carrie and her clique in the television series Sex in the City, the Cosmo actually has a history well beyond the show. Many bartenders have claimed the fame of creating this drink made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and fresh lime juice, but it is actually quite similar to a Cape Codder, Kamikaze, or Sea Breeze. Even with fuzzy details on the actual inventor, it is widely accepted that the drink started showing up here and there in the 1970s and then was brought to a larger scale audience in San Francisco during 1987.
